Holiday Card Contest
Our community is home to some wonderfully creative artists. Every year, we invite these artists, regardless of age, to send us a winter-themed masterpiece that may be a good fit for the cover of our firm’s holiday card. The winner of the selected design receives $500 and recognition on the card, which is sent to approximately 3,000 individuals and businesses in the area. He or she also receives a three-month exhibit in our Belleville and Edwardsville galleries.
Many of the applicants for our Holiday Card Contest are students and members of arts-focused organizations in the area. If an organization sends a creation made by one of its members, the organization receives $500 as well. We have received brilliant designs from art departments at SIUE, McKendree University, Lewis & Clark College and other local higher education facilities, as well as from the Gateway East Artist Guild.
We’ve been introduced to some remarkably creative individuals through the holiday card design submissions. In 2012, we were extremely impressed by an Edwardsville artist, Molly Carver, and her watercolor painting “Frosti.” We chose Molly’s snowman painting not only because of the impressive piece she created, but because art has allowed her to overcome obstacles endured after being electrocuted at age 15. Molly experienced a traumatic brain injury in the accident, but through extraordinary perseverance she has fought to revive the functions of her brain and body. She now has her own business painting unique watercolor cards. She dedicates her work to all those who have helped her along this difficult journey and continues to remind the world that miracles do happen.
“Molly's story and ‘Frosti’ remind us of the hope, joy and miracles of the holiday season,” says Kelli Madigan, a shareholder of MMR.
