MMR Supports National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Belleville, IL – June 24, 2016 – Today, employees of the law firm of Mathis, Marifian and Richter, Ltd. held a Jeans Day promotion to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Attorneys and staff at all offices of the St. Louis area firm donated money to support the cause, and were given the opportunity to wear jeans at their respective offices for the day. The MMR Foundation, a charitable institution established by members of the firm, matched the funds raised by the employees to double the contribution made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Article MM R Supports National Multiple Sclerosis Society M0421491 html m374608ee“The National MS Society works with millions of people who want to do something about MS now and we’re proud to be a part of that effort,” said Patrick B. Mathis, a shareholder at Mathis, Marifian and Richter, Ltd. “With more than 2.3 million people affected worldwide, many of us know someone who lives with multiple sclerosis and we want to help.”

In multiple sclerosis (MS), damage to the central nervous system interferes with the transmission of nerve signals between the brain and the spinal cord and other parts of the body. MS can cause problems with vision, balance, muscle control, and other basic body functions, and the effects are often different for everyone who has the disease. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the cause of MS is still unknown, but the disease is believed to be triggered by as-yet-unidentified environmental factors in a person who is genetically predisposed. The National MS Society promotes research for the prevention, treatment and cure of MS, while helping people with MS to manage their symptoms, feel their best and live their best lives.
